Welcome to the Oxford Orchard site.

Oxford Orchard provides self-catering accommodation for up to 6 people. It is a light, spacious, well-equipped house in the centre of Topsham. Although only a few minutes’ walk from the shops, Oxford Orchard is in a secluded and quiet setting, with a large garden and ample parking. We use the house regularly ourselves. It is furnished in an eclectic way with our family possessions, and is only available to be let for a limited time during the year.

Topsham is an historic town of great character situated on the River Exe, 4 miles downstream from Exeter and near the South Devon coast. Once a Roman port, it became particularly prosperous in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through trade and shipbuilding, and many interesting buildings remain. It is a town of great variety, made exceptional by its setting on the renowned estuary.

Topsham has a wide range of excellent shops, including an award-winning English cheese shop, a fine second-hand bookshop, and a number of antiques shops. There are pubs, restaurants and cafes. The town has its own open-air swimming pool and public tennis courts, and a regular Saturday market at the Matthews Hall. There are five churches.

The internationally famous RSPB reserve at Bowling Green Marshes offers outstanding opportunities for bird watching. A ferry crosses the river at Topsham to the towpath along the Exeter Ship Canal, and ferries also ply down river to the well-known pub at Turf lock and to Exmouth. The World Heritage site, the ‘Jurassic Coast’, runs east from Exmouth.

Topsham is only 10 minutes’ drive from the M5 (junction 30), and can also be reached by train or bus from Exeter. It is well placed for access to Devon’s many attractions.
